Part 5 -Flee-


     Shoul stirred a bit and opened his eyes. Before he could ask what happened Meerin grabbed his arm and heaved him up to his feet so fast he almost lost his balance.

     “We need to go now” she quietly walked to the window and peeked outside using the wall to hide herself. “There is no way we are getting out any exit... lets head for the roof” Shoul looked a little confused but understood that there must be no time to argue. Meerin left the apartment with Shoul following close behind.

     “What happened?” he seemed to think it was a good time to ask while they were on the move.

     “Some monster blew the door off and into you, it attacked me then disappeared and now there is at least a hundred of them outside.” She sputtered it out between breaths. They were climbing the stairs now, set after set. “How many floors are there to this building?”

     “Not many” He didnt sound so sure. After ten more minutes of exhausting climbing they reached an exit to the roof. The door was locked however. “What now?” Shoul leaned against the wall waiting.

     “You act like this is a problem” she looked over at him and smiled. She took out her sword and with a quick couple of slashes, the door was left in pieces. Shoul looked moderately surprised and that gave Meerin a sensation of accomplishment. From the beginning this guy had acted like he knew more than her and ,even though he looks like an average person, he has had a certain air of importance around him. He ran out onto the roof, into the pouring rain like a man with a plan but stopped at the edge. He turned around and faced her.

     “OK... what now?” he crossed his arms waiting for an answer. Her good feeling flushed out with his words when she realized that she hadn't thought of anything to do. Sure she could fly off using her own wings but Shoul would be too much to carry and would be left behind. She couldn't bring herself to answer him, he already knew anyway. “well you have wings”.

    “you are too heavy to carry off here” she looked over the edge at the creatures below. They seemed to be growing in numbers despite the fact that some were crawling into the building through various windows and doors.

     “Even so you are a dragon, you are not limited to only this size. Why don't you change to your real form?” The thought of changing forms struck her hard. All at once a rush of emotions filled her, none were good.

     “I-I can't” She didn't even have to think of an answer, it came naturally as if she had made that decision many times before. She tried to bring up the memory, the reason she felt this way. The more she thought on it however the more she felt an almost unbearable sense of fear.

     “Why is that?” He sounded concerned for his safety now. Meerin could not think of any explanation for her feelings, and she really was left with no other choice. She figured, whatever she was terrified of, she would soon find out.

     “Fine... stay back” She made sure there was plenty of space between them. Shoul watched seemingly unphased  by the event happening before his eyes. Meerin's body began to glow, the light grew brighter engulfing her body and within seconds grew to a giant size. Moments after, the light dissipated leaving her standing there in her jet black dragon form. Large thick scales served as armor covering her entire body. Spikes from neck to tail and shimmering blue eyes. She is intimidating, her face was formed into a natural glare and her breaths sounded more like the warning growls of a predator. The roof creaked with her extra weight but held firm while she knelt down to allow Shoul to get on. There was just enough room between spikes on her back to sit and hold on.

     Meerin wasted no time and dove off the building top towards the ground, gaining speed, then pulled herself up and shot towards the nearest way out of the city. Her great wings barely fit between the buildings. Shoul felt relieved that they had escaped death.
